Parish Post – May 25, 2017

A message from Cheryl Prichard:

It seems that for any questions posed someone in our congregation has an answer.  I need some help.  I am seeking information regarding scholarships for non-traditional students.

I have been serving as a mentor with the Christian Help program Jobs for Life.  This is a program designed to help unemployed or underemployed individuals.

One of the women I have been working with is going back to school to become an LPN with the goal of eventually working on an RN degree.  She is a single mother of college-age children. She also provides a home for her elderly mother. She has a minimum-wage job and is working so that she has benefits. She has been accepted to an LPN program.  She will continue working full-time and will go to school in the evenings.  She is in need of support for the costs of school.

I am wondering if you might know of any organization or organizations through which I might help her apply for scholarships?  During my interactions with her I have been amazed at her enthusiasm and her drive.  I am not sure I would still be plugging along if our situations were reversed.

If you have any suggestions or information, please email me at clprichard@mail.wvu.edu.

Thanks.

Cheryl Prichard

NO YOUTH CHURCH

On May 28 there will be no Youth Church.  This is per parent input that sometimes Youth Church-aged children should be going into the sanctuary for Mass.

ANNUAL PICNIC IS JUNE 4

Enjoy food, fellowship, and fun at the annual picnic, which will be held on Sunday, June 4 !  The Fellowship Committee will be providing grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers, but asks everyone to bring a side dish to share.  As has become our tradition, the Sunday School students and parents will be providing a free-will donation dessert bar, the proceeds of which will support the Scott’s Run Settlement House summer feeding program.

Cary Johnson, the chair of the Fellowship Committee, will be away on that day.  If anyone is willing to be the grill master for the picnic, please contact him at cary_j99@yahoo.com

TEACHER ASSISTANTS NEEDED FOR 4-S

Please volunteer to assist teachers at least one Sunday this summer.  The sign-up sheet for our Summer Session Sunday School (4-S) is on the table in the Narthex.  Remember Sunday School continues during the summer.  Each lesson is already planned, and a Sunday School teacher will be the leader.  Volunteers are just needed to be the helpers.  So please hurry and sign up before 4-S starts on June11!

IN OUR COMMUNITY

The Rev Elizabeth Hadaway and the Rev. Mike Hadaway will be hosting an Ascension Day service, followed by wine and cheese, at Christ Church Episcopal Church, 824 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, at 7 p.m. on May 25. All are welcome.
