Thursday Parish Post – April 26, 2018

Dear Parish Family and Friends,

Great Litany Tonight for Tim Pahl

For those wishing to offer prayers for Tim Pahl and his family, the church will be open from 7 to 8 p.m. today, with the Great Litany to be prayed at 7:30 p.m..  There will be an opportunity to light candles in memory of Tim’s life.  You may come and go as needed.  Also, if you would like to talk and/or pray with Fr. Tony Setley, he will be at the church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday (April 27). Details regarding the date and time of the funeral service are still pending.

We grieve with Andrew, and his wife, Erin. They are staying with friends in Stewartstown and understandably are asking for privacy at this time. We shall surround the whole family with our prayers in the days and weeks to come.

Support Greg’s MS Walk

A Message from Greg Elmes – Please support TeamElmes.

I will be rolling on the Morgantown Rail Trail on Saturday, April 28.  Step by step and dollar by dollar, Walk MS is changing lives. That’s why I registered for Walk MS and why I’m asking for your support. Please consider doing one of three things:

  • Donate to my fundraising efforts
  • Join me / my team
  • Forward this email to others who might be interested in helping us raise money and create awareness

Our fundraising drives groundbreaking research, provides life-changing services, and guarantees a supportive community for those who need it most. Together, we will help create a world free of MS.

Thank you!

Greg

Bring Food for Potluck This Sunday

The Fellowship Committee invites everyone to bring a dish to share and stay for the Potluck Coffee Hour after the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday, April 29. This coffee hour is NOT a fundraiser; instead it is an opportunity to share a meal together as a parish family. Please join us to experience once again the food-based fellowship for which St. Thomas is known.

Anyone who is available to help clean up after the event will be welcomed with open arms by members of the Fellowship Committee.

Blessings,

Linda Yost, Parish Administrator

HELP IN NURSERY NEEDED MAY 6, JUNE 10

Can you “sub” in the nursery? Bethany Kulchock will not be available to work in the nursery on two Sundays: May 6 and June 10 .  According to our diocesan policy, we must have two attendants in the nursery.  Can you volunteer to assist our other nursery attendant, Tyler Rigby, on one or both Sundays? If you are able to help, please let Linda Yost know  (thomasabecket.wv@gmail) as soon as possible.

WORK MAY 6 ON BLUE JEAN SUNDAY

Wear your blue jeans or comfortable clothes to church on May 6 and help us spring clean our church home.  We will have a list of tasks and plenty of cleaning supplies for them.  The Property Committee will also be selling sandwiches during this event; the proceeds of which will go to the Capital Projects Fund.  So come and support our church on May 6.

SPRING FLOWER AND PLANT SALE

The St. Thomas Flower Guild will be selling plants and flower arrangements on Sunday, May 13.  That Sunday is Mother’s Day!  So, this is a perfect opportunity to pick up a gift for your mother or a spring gift for that good friend or neighbor!  All proceeds go to the Capital Projects Fund to help our church.

CONNER SCHOLARSHIP

Conner Scholarship applications are now available.  The applications along with award criteria can be found on the table in the Narthex for those interested in applying.  Marian Conner asks that those applying please leave your name and contact information on the sheet provided.  Completed applications must be received by May 15, 2018.  If you have any questions, contact Marian Conner at 820marimar@comcast.net.

FROM ANGELA CARVER: TRAIL UPDATE

We are still working on the trail.  Please help our  youth group.  Our next date to prepare the trail is Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We invite the parish to join us. We need several strong people to help with moving wheelbarrows of gravel to line the trail.  Shovels, small clippers, larger clippers, and saws for cutting down smaller dead trees and thorny briers are needed as well.  Donuts will be provided.  Please let me know if you can help so we can have an accurate count of the number of people to feed. Contact me at mamacarver@gmail.com or 309-287-6271 (cell).

WE’RE LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD MOWERS

Many of you may not know that the freshly mown lawn that has greeted us for many years was thanks to the faithful work of Jim Sharley. The time has come for Jim to turn his mowing duties over to a new generation.  Two valiant volunteers have stepped up, but we’d love to find one or two more to alternate weeks.  If you’re willing to join the mowing team, please contact Beth Royall at beth.royall@gmail.com or 681-285-5305.

LEARN HOW TO BE AN ASSISTANT TREASURER

Can you be your church’s assistant treasurer? The Vestry is looking for someone to serve as an assistant treasurer. Accounting experience is not necessary; Dede Burnell will provide all the training necessary. Because we cannot have Dede forever, we are engaging in succession planning. If you have any interest in serving this vital role, please let one of the Vestry members know. Their names are listed in the Sunday bulletin and on the Vestry bulletin board across from the kitchen door.

IN OUR COMMUNITY: MEALS ON WHEELS NEEDS DRIVERS

Be a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels.  It takes less than 3 hours a week each week.  Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that prepares and delivers hot, nutritious meals Monday through Friday to people in the Morgantown area who are homebound or unable to shop for or prepare meals.  Volunteer drivers and substitute drivers are needed to help with this mission.  On their designated week day, drivers pick up meals from one of three distribution centers: Star City Kitchen on University Avenue, Goshen Baptist Church on the Goshen Road, or Rock Forge Presbyterian Church on Earl L Core Road. Meals (packed in coolers) are picked up about 9:45 a.m. and are delivered within a 10-mile radius of each distribution center. Deliveries are complete by 11:30 a.m.  If you are interested in helping deliver meals, please call Mike at 304-276-9143 or email the office at morgantownareamow@gmail.com. Please visit the web site http://www.morgantownwvmow.org/  to learn more about Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels.
