Parish Post – September 5, 2019

Dear Parish Family and Friends,

This Sunday is the annual Welcome Home Picnic after the 10:30 service. The Fellowship Committee will provide chicken; please bring a dish to share!

Rev. John Lein’s church email address is rector@stthomasabecket.org
The church office’s email is being transitioned to parish@stthomasabecket.org
The old office email address will still work (thomasabecket.wv@gmail.com) but it will forward emails to the new address, and Natalie will gradually start sending emails from parish@stthomasabecket.org
Please make sure these new addresses are in your contacts so they don’t get flagged as spam.

YOUTH AND CHILDREN’S ASSISTANT TEACHERS
Formation classes will begin, church-wide, on September 22, during the 9:15 – 10:15 am hour. Rules require the presence of at least two adults when teaching children. In anticipation of this, both Angela Carver and Corina Chang will need assistant teachers and/or teacher coverage.

  • Angela will need assistant teachers during the 9:15-10:15 am formation hour for youth (grades 6-12).
  • Corina will need assistant teachers both during the 9:15-10:15 hour and the children’s chapel service (which takes place during the Rite II service, from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm) for children (pre-K-5).
There are two sign-up sheets on the narthex table. Lessons and resources will be planned and ready for you. If you can help, please sign up!

PRESIDING BISHOP COMING TO WHEELING
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry is coming to Wheeling, WV to join in celebrating the 200th anniversary of the founding of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Bishop Curry invites us to join him in The Way of Love.
Tickets are available here for the October 5th event.
There is limited seating for October 6th. Contact St. Matthew’s for tickets. More information is available here.

Update: Saint Matthew’s will be privileged to have Presiding Bishop Curry as our guest preacher on Sunday, Oct 6 at 10:30 am.  We have seating for a little more than 100 available in the sanctuary. There are also 32 seats in the balcony in the rear of the sanctuary.  You will need to be physically fit to climb the stairs to sit there. We would like people to form themselves into groups of four if possible as each section of our pews seats four. If you would like to reserve one of these seats for the service please contact Mary Paull, our parish administrator, at 304-233-0133.  She is typically in the office from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Another Update: St. Thomas a Becket is planning to rent a 15-passenger van to attend the October 5 event. The sign-up sheet in the narthex is almost full. If you plan to attend, you must purchase your own tickets from WesBanco Arena.
